UN picks Azerbaijan as member of committee protecting migrant workers' rights
Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families for the 2026–2029 term.
The election took place during the 12th meeting of the States Parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, held on June 24 in New York, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
Candidates from seven countries were in the running for the vacant seats on the committee. The Azerbaijani representative was elected in the first round of voting, receiving the highest number of votes among all candidates.
The UN Committee on Migrant Workers is comprised of 14 independent experts responsible for monitoring the implementation of the convention, which aims to safeguard the rights of migrant workers and their families globally.
Azerbaijan is also currently represented in two other UN treaty bodies — the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
