US army receives additional anti-drone systems from "Leonardo" contractor
The Pentagon has purchased additional counter-unmanned aircraft systems as part of the development of its Integrated Attack System (M-LIDS) program.
As is reported by Defense Industry Daily, the military contractor Leonardo DRS will provide kinetic injury machines and related spare parts for the interception of small unmanned aerial vehicles using electronic warfare for the US army.
The total amount of the contract is about $60 million, as reported by Gazeta.Ru.
The Russian media further commented on this purchase by recalling on a statement made by the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Yuri Baluevsky, who said that Chinese commercial quadrocopters revolutionized the use of barrel and rocket artillery.
According to him, the quadrocopters solved the "age-old" problem for artillery "reconnaissance, targeting and adjustment of artillery" with the help of the drone hanging above the target it became possible to use artillery with the effectiveness of high-precision weapons.
