US at impasse in confrontation with Iran, adviser warns

25 May 2026 15:07

Iran’s Supreme Leader’s military adviser, Mohsen Rezaei, has said the United States has reached a deadlock in its confrontation with Tehran and warned Washington of the consequences of any potential military action near the Strait of Hormuz.

Rezaei stated that any attempt to exert military pressure on Iran could trigger a large-scale conflict affecting the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the Indian Ocean, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

According to him, Tehran is capable of breaking any potential “naval blockade” and is even considering withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) among its response options.

He said the United States is simultaneously threatening Iran with military action while seeking concessions in negotiations, including relinquishing control over the Strait of Hormuz and transferring its stockpiles of enriched uranium.

Rezaei emphasised that Iran views maintaining control over the strategic waterway as a matter of national security and intends to prevent the Persian Gulf from turning into a zone of military confrontation and instability. At the same time, he noted that the strait remains open to international trade, with restrictions applying only to military activity.

Commenting on Iran’s nuclear programme, Rezaei said the country remains a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and a party to the NPT, with its nuclear facilities under international oversight.

He added that IAEA inspectors have repeatedly visited Iranian nuclear sites and claimed that even US intelligence agencies have acknowledged no violations in Iran’s nuclear activities.

In conclusion, he said that despite deep tensions with Washington, Iran continues negotiations aimed at protecting the rights of the Iranian people, while warning that crossing Tehran’s “red lines” would provoke a “decisive response.”
