US Congress refuses to impose sanctions on Russia Without Trump’s approval

15 September 2025 09:15

The U.S. Congress does not plan to independently introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia and will only proceed with such a step in coordination with President Donald Trump.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, said this in an interview with CBS News, as reported by Caliber.Az.

He explained that Congress cannot act unilaterally since any bill must ultimately be signed by the president. “This has to be a partnership, and we are following the lead of the commander-in-chief,” Johnson noted.

Praising Trump’s foreign policy approach, Johnson described him as a strong leader on the global stage who has managed to resolve conflicts in ways others could not. He expressed confidence that Trump could apply the same determination to bring an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“Everyone in America wants this bloodshed to stop, and President Trump is working toward that goal,” Johnson stressed.
