US hosts international meeting on countering resurgence of political terrorism

17 July 2026 11:24

The U.S. Department of State hosted a ministerial meeting focused on countering what Washington described as the resurgence of political terrorism, bringing together political leaders, law enforcement officials and experts from more than 60 countries.

The forum opened with remarks from members of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller, Caliber.Az reports per the department

According to the State Department, participants discussed the growing threat posed by politically motivated extremism and the need to strengthen international cooperation in intelligence sharing, efforts to disrupt cross-border extremist networks and measures to curb their financing.

The U.S. Treasury Department also announced expanded oversight mechanisms for nonprofit organisations and charitable foundations that U.S. authorities say can be used to conceal and transfer illicit funds.

“The coalition in this room today includes political leaders and experts and law enforcement officials from more than 60 countries across the world. You have come here from a wide range of governments, parties, and political persuasions. Some of your governments and ours disagree publicly. Sometimes we disagree sharply about trade, about energy, about immigration. You did not come here today because you have been persuaded on every single aspect of the American view of the world,” Rubio said.
