US intel: Russia backs Trump, Iran favours Harris In 2024 election influence efforts
U.S. intelligence officials have reported that Russia, Iran, and China are actively engaged in efforts to influence American voters.
It is indicated in the latest findings from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Caliber.Az reports citing Voice of America.
The report indicates that these nations have not altered their primary objectives regarding the upcoming U.S. presidential election.
However, there are notable differences in the preferences of Russia and Iran for the election's outcome. Specifically, the Russian Federation continues to execute influence campaigns aimed at boosting the chances of former President Donald Trump while simultaneously attempting to undermine the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris.
In contrast, Iran is directing its efforts toward supporting Harris by damaging Trump’s candidacy. The intelligence report highlights a hacking and leaking operation targeting the Trump campaign, which involved three operatives connected to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Additionally, U.S. intelligence agencies assess that China has not yet intervened in the presidential campaign but is focusing on persuading American voters to reject state and local candidates that are deemed detrimental to Beijing's interests, particularly those who express support for Taiwan. Furthermore, Russia and Cuba have also joined China in targeting congressional, state, and local elections, expanding the scope of foreign influence efforts in the U.S. electoral process.
