According to CENTCOM, the raid targeted a group of IS militants who were heavily armed with multiple weapons, grenades, and explosive belts.
The operation was conducted as part of a coordinated effort to disrupt IS’s operational capabilities and reduce its threat to both local and international security.
The statement highlighted that the operation was meticulously planned to avoid civilian casualties, and indeed, there were no reported civilian injuries or deaths.
The primary objective of the raid was to target key leaders of the IS group to undermine their ability to plan, organize, and execute attacks. This includes attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as US citizens, allies, and partners in the region and globally.
