US leader condemns Putin as “murderous madman on march”
US President Joe Biden has stated that NATO was established from the aftermath of World War II with the goal of forming an alliance of free and democratic nations committed to collective defence.
He remarked that for those who believed NATO's relevance had faded, Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine served as a rude awakening, bringing some of the oldest and deepest fears in Europe back to the forefront, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
Biden described the situation, saying, “Once again, a murderous madman was on the move.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The president said that the goals are “demilitarisation” and “denazification” of the neighbouring country, as well as the protection of the civilian population of Donbas from “genocide by Kyiv authorities”. After the outbreak of hostilities, the Ukrainian authorities introduced martial law throughout the country and launched a general mobilisation. The partial mobilisation was announced in Russia in September 2022.
