US plans subcritical nuclear tests at Nevada site
The United States is set to conduct nuclear weapons tests that will not result in a critical state, with the tests taking place in Nevada.
This information was outlined in the corporate plan of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Caliber.Az reports.
According to the document, the purpose of the subcritical tests is to enhance diagnostics and better understand the aging characteristics of the nuclear stockpile, certify the test-free arsenal, and gather data on nuclear materials and newly manufactured components.
The Nevada National Security Site is equipped with specialized facilities for these subcritical experiments, which differ from full-fledged nuclear tests that both Washington and Moscow agreed to abandon in the 1990s.
