US pro-Armenian senator faces federal criminal investigation Adam Schiff under fire

06 August 2025 10:38

As previously reported by Caliber.Az, citing the American website PJ Media, Texas Senator John Cornyn has introduced a bill aimed at curbing dubious property investments, named after the New York Attorney General – the LETITIA Act. The proposed legislation marks a significant step towards expanding criminal liability and, more importantly, tightening penalties for public officials who abuse their positions for personal gain – particularly through questionable transactions, such as mortgage or tax fraud. The primary target of the bill is pro-Armenian Senator Adam Schiff – the very same Schiff who for years hid behind rhetoric about honesty and integrity while leading a biased witch-hunt against Trump and his allies. Bill Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Agency, has accused Schiff of falsifying bank documents and misrepresenting his primary residence across multiple states. Moreover, Schiff is reportedly under federal investigation for suspected mortgage fraud, according to Fox News, which cites a source from the Trump administration; the probe was revealed today.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham disclosed the development during her programme The Ingraham Angle on Tuesday night, stating that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland is examining possible criminal charges related to Schiff’s property loan arrangements.

The probe follows a recent report alleging that the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) referred Schiff to the Department of Justice, claiming he had repeatedly “falsified bank documents and property records” to secure more favourable mortgage terms.

Central to the investigation is a 2011 affidavit signed by Schiff, in which he declared a property in Montgomery County, Maryland, as his primary residence. However, Schiff also owns a condominium in Burbank, California, which he reportedly listed as his primary residence as recently as 2023, during his Senate campaign.

Fox News reported that Schiff’s office has not responded to requests for comment.

In a letter sent in May to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, FHFA Director William Pulte alleged that:

“Based on media reports, Mr. Adam B. Schiff has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire more favorable loan terms, impacting payments from 2003–2019 for a Potomac, Maryland-based property.”

Pulte further stated, “Such misconduct jeopardizes the safety and soundness of FHFA’s regulated entities and the security and stability of the U.S. mortgage market."

A subsequent Fannie Mae internal memo, seen by Fox News, reportedly concluded that Schiff may have engaged in “a sustained pattern of possible occupancy misrepresentation” across five Fannie Mae-backed loans.

According to the letter, Schiff and his wife purchased the Maryland home in 2003 for $870,000, financing it with a $610,000 mortgage at 5.625% interest, while affirming it as their primary residence. This classification was maintained in refinancing documents over multiple years, despite Schiff’s role as a California-based member of Congress.

The FHFA alleges that the Maryland home was not listed as a secondary residence until 2020. Meanwhile, Schiff reportedly claimed a homeowner's tax exemption on his Burbank condominium, saving around $7,000 annually by asserting it too as a primary residence.

Despite the dual claims, a spokesperson for Schiff stated in 2023:

“Adam’s primary residence is Burbank, California, and will remain so when he wins the Senate seat.”

Pulte noted in his letter that such actions may violate several federal criminal statutes, including those covering bank fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud and false statements to financial institutions.

He wrote:

“Schiff appears to have falsified records in order to receive favorable loan terms, and also appears to have been aware of the financial benefits of a primary residence mortgage when compared to a secondary residence mortgage.”

Schiff’s spokesperson told CNN in 2023 that:

“Adam’s California and Maryland addresses have been listed as primary residences for loan purposes because they are both occupied throughout the year and to distinguish them from a vacation property.”

The case is reportedly being compared to that of former Baltimore City state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby, who was convicted in 2023 for making false statements on a mortgage application.
