US, Syria discuss reconnecting Syrian economy to global financial system
Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani met with U.S. State Department and Treasury officials during his visit to Washington, as the two countries explore restoring Syria’s economic ties with the global financial system.
The U.S. Treasury stated that it is working with Syria on a “responsible and secure” reconnection, while continuing efforts to combat terrorism financing. The meeting was also attended by U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack, Caliber.Az reports via Syrian media.
In addition, al-Shaibani held talks with U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Van Hollen in the presence of Special Envoy Barrack.
According to the Treasury, these meetings are part of a “historic visit” aimed at extensive negotiations between Syria and the United States.
