US to buy Russian rifles AK-74

US Department of Defense is going to purchase AK-74 Kalashnikov assault rifles with 5.45 mm calibre cartridges or copies thereof.

The corresponding order was placed by the defense department on the website of the US government's contracts, Gazeta.Ru reports.

This notice states that potential suppliers of the AK-74 and accessories for these weapons are being sought by the Army Contracts Command in New Jersey.

It is noted that the priority is the purchase of machine guns from Russia (AK-74), Romania (md.86) and Germany (MPi AK74). At the same time, not all models similar to the Russian machine gun are suitable for order.

“Bulgarian AR-SF rifles and Polish Tantal rifles are not considered AK-74 weapons,” the government agencies said.
