US Triton drone and Poseidon aircraft conduct reconnaissance near Iran
A US Navy MQ-4C Triton long-range electronic reconnaissance drone and a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft conducted extended reconnaissance flights southeast of Iran’s coastline on February 14, according to flight-tracking data from Flightradar24.
The Triton drone took off from Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates and spent several hours operating over international waters in the Gulf of Oman close to Iran.
Later, a US Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft, which departed from Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, carried out multiple flights over the Strait of Hormuz, patrolling the airspace between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
The flights followed similar activity on Friday, when two US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft also operated near Iran.
US patrol aircraft and MQ-4C Triton long-range drones are regularly deployed to monitor the security situation around the Strait of Hormuz as well as in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
