JD Vance says Pakistani mediators requested delay in Iran deal release

17 June 2026 18:30

US Vice President JD Vance has stated that Qatari and Pakistani mediators, who helped facilitate the talks between the US and Iran, requested a delay in releasing the full text of the agreement, though Washington is now pushing for earlier publication.

Speaking on CBS Mornings, he said the text will be released by June 19 “at the latest,”  Caliber.Az reports.

Vance made it clear that they want to tell the American people what’s in this deal, noting that the administration believes the agreement is being misrepresented.

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the United States had reached an agreement with Iran, although the full details have not yet been made public.

Officials say both sides have electronically signed a memorandum of understanding, with a formal signing ceremony expected on June 19.

Vance described the deal as “fundamentally a good deal for the American people,” saying it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately and create a framework linking sanctions relief to Iranian commitments on nuclear activity and funding of militant groups.

He added that any economic benefits for Iran would depend on significant changes in its behaviour, including abandoning nuclear weapons ambitions.

Asked about reports of major reconstruction funding and full sanctions relief, Vance stressed that none of those measures would apply unless Iran fundamentally changes its conduct.

At the G7 summit in France, Trump said the agreement is not yet a final deal and warned that U.S. military action could resume if Iran does not comply.
