Uzbekistan explains decision to join Trump’s Board of Peace"
Uzbekistan’s decision to join Donald Trump’s Board of Peace was driven by national security priorities and by the alignment of the organisation’s objectives with the country’s foreign policy course, Abdulaziz Kamilov, adviser to the President of Uzbekistan, said.
According to Uzbek media, Kamilov said the decision was taken with due consideration of the republic’s “vital interests” in the region.
He explained that the new international platform is being established to discuss and seek solutions to the world’s most acute conflicts. One of the key issues on its agenda, he said, is the humanitarian and military crisis in the Gaza Strip. The initiative launched by Donald Trump to create the Board of Peace is specifically aimed at developing possible pathways toward resolving this situation.
Kamilov added that President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, supported the proposal put forward by the US side because it fully corresponds to Uzbekistan’s strategic priorities.
He outlined three interrelated factors explaining the country’s participation. First, the decision is based on Uzbekistan’s direct national security interests. Second, the goals of the Board of Peace are in line with the principles and direction of the country’s foreign policy. Third, Uzbekistan has strategic interests in the region and is therefore заинтересована in peacebuilding and conflict-resolution initiatives.
In Kamilov’s view, resolving the most complex humanitarian and political challenges is possible only through the combined efforts of multiple countries. He emphasized that the process should involve not only the US and Muslim-majority states, but also the countries of Central Asia. Consistency and coordination of actions, he noted, create the necessary conditions for achieving long-term peace.
Kamilov also addressed the political significance of Uzbekistan’s participation in such initiatives, stressing that it goes beyond a purely symbolic step.
“This is not just an important event. It is an expression of trust, respect, and recognition of Uzbekistan as a serious and influential participant in international processes,” he said.
As previously reported, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev earlier signed the charter of the Board of Peace. The White House has announced that the organisation has obtained official status as an international structure. The charter has been signed by the leaders of 19 countries.
