Uzbekistan eyes direct flights to Prague to boost tourism
Uzbekistan is planning to launch direct flights to Prague in a move aimed at strengthening tourism and business ties with the Czech Republic, officials said following bilateral talks.
The proposal was discussed during an online meeting between the Uzbek Embassy in Prague and Martin Tateck, route development manager at Václav Havel Airport Prague, Caliber.Az reports per Uzbek media.
Both sides explored prospects for increasing tourist flows and business travel, as well as expanding cooperation in the aviation sector. Czech representatives highlighted strong interest in Uzbekistan’s cultural and historical heritage, its growing tourism infrastructure and service standards. Uzbekistan is also viewed as a promising destination for Czech investors and business groups.
Participants noted that the absence of a direct air link currently hampers the development of tourism and commercial exchanges. At present, most travellers rely on transit routes — primarily via Istanbul — which adds travel time and reduces the route’s competitiveness.
The launch of direct flights between Prague and Tashkent is expected to enable tour operators to develop package offers and facilitate advance travel planning. Uzbekistan Airways is seen as a potential key operator on the route, though the involvement of private carriers has not been ruled out.
Another online meeting involving representatives of Prague Airport, airlines and other stakeholders is scheduled for early March to discuss the technical and commercial conditions for opening regular services, as well as possible support measures for the new route.
