Vietnam, Iran hold talks on regional conflicts, national sovereignty
Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung held talks with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi to discuss regional developments and bilateral relations.
During the conversation, Le Hoai Trung conveyed condolences on behalf of the Vietnamese government and people for the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader and several high-ranking officials and civilians, Caliber.Az reports via the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The Iranian minister emphasised Iran’s continued defence against aggressors, including their bases and military facilities located in regional countries. He stated that Iran’s defensive operations are a response to the US use of foreign territories, bases, and infrastructure to wage an illegal war against Iran.
Araghchi stressed that Iran’s actions reflect its natural right to self-defence and should not be considered a violation of host nations’ sovereignty.
He also noted that the primary source of imposed instability in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz is US and Israeli military aggression against Iran. The Strait is closed to vessels of countries involved in the military aggression, in line with international law, to prevent their use in unlawful attacks on Iran, while the movement of other countries’ ships is coordinated with authorised Iranian authorities.
Le Hoai Trung, referencing Vietnam’s historical experience defending its territory from occupation, highlighted the importance of respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, and stressed the need to avoid the use of force. He expressed concern over the ongoing war in the region and hope for the swift restoration of peace and stability.
