Violent clashes with police in Ireland after children injured in knife attack
Riots erupted in Dublin city center, resulting in the burning of buses and trams, as well as the looting of shops following a knife attack near a school that left a woman and three young children injured.
Calls for calm came from both the police and politicians, emphasizing the need to avoid misinformation as the violence escalated from a demonstration initiated on November 23 afternoon at the incident's location, the Independent reported.
Confrontations with riot police ensued, with some protesters setting off flares and fireworks, while others seized chairs and stools from nearby bars and restaurants.
Irish Justice Minister Helen McEntee denounced the scenes as "intolerable" and emphasized that a "thuggish and manipulative element" should not exploit a tragic event to create chaos.
The outbreak of violence was triggered by the attack on three young children and a woman in Parnell Square East in the northern part of the city center on Thursday afternoon, with one of the children in critical condition.
