White House explains global support for US in trade war with China
In response to a question about why US allies should support Washington in its ongoing trade war with China, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt emphasized that many countries are eager to cooperate with the US because they rely on the American market, consumer base, and business model for their economic survival.
Leavitt explained, "You will have to talk to our allies, who are contacting us themselves. Phones are ringing off the hook. They have made it very clear that they need the United States of America. They need our markets. They need our consumer base," Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
She highlighted the strong interest from countries such as Israel, South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam, pointing out that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had recently met with President Trump and committed to lowering both monetary tariffs and non-monetary trade barriers.
Leavitt also mentioned Italy’s planned visit to the White House, noting that these nations recognize the importance of the US economy in their own survival.
"The president uses this lever in our interests," Leavitt said, underscoring the strategic role of the US in the global trade ecosystem and the willingness of its allies to align with American priorities amidst the trade tensions with China.
