Trump: Republicans preparing bill to sanction countries trading with Russia
17 November 2025 11:36
US President Donald Trump said on November 16 that Republicans are working on legislation that will impose sanctions on any country doing business with Russia.
He noted that Iran might be added to the sanctions list, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"As you know, I suggested it, so any country that does business with Russia will be very severely sanctioned," Trump told reporters. "They may add Iran to that.”
Last month, the US slapped sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil and their subsidiaries, in a bid to reduce Russia’s oil revenues.
Sanctions come into full force on November 21, but several countries are already thinking about asking for exemptions. Hungary already got a one-year extension from the US.
