Ukrainian president announces gas supply agreement with Greece
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an agreement with Greece regarding gas supplies for Ukraine.
The president said this will provide an additional route for gas imports, aimed at securing supply routes for the winter, per Ukrainian media.
“We already have agreements in place to finance gas imports, and we will cover nearly €2 billion in import needs to compensate for losses in Ukrainian production due to Russian attacks,” Zelensky said.
He added that the Ukrainian government has allocated funds for import financing, with additional support from European partners. European banks, under the guarantees of the European Commission, are helping, as are Ukrainian banks and Norway. Active cooperation with American partners is also ongoing, ensuring full financing.
“We are creating broad opportunities for supplies this winter,” the President assured.
Notably,on November 13, European development banks and Ukraine's energy giant Naftogaz signed an agreement to provide the company with €127 million to purchase gas amid Russian attacks on its infrastructure.
The European Investment Bank announced that Naftogaz would receive a €127 million grant in addition to the €300 million loan announced last month.
Ukraine has suspended the filling of underground gas storage facilities amid attacks on energy facilities and the suspension of gas imports through Poland.
