Winter storm leaves about 230,000 homes in US without power
Around 230,000 homes in the United States were left without electricity as a result of the sinter storm.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the introduction of a state of emergency in the state amid an approaching snowstorm, CBS News reports.
She noted that this would allow resources to be distributed effectively.
Hochul is coordinating her actions with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The authorities have urged residents to remain at home whenever possible.
Meanwhile, The Straits Times reports that more than 4,000 flights were cancelled in the US on January 24.
Calling the storms “historic”, President Donald Trump on Jan 24 approved federal emergency disaster declarations in South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana and West Virginia.
