Women’s share of new driving licences rises in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan recorded a sharp drop in the number of newly issued driving licences in 2025, even as women accounted for a growing share of new drivers, official data show.
According to figures released by the State Statistical Committee, a total of 143,261 people obtained driving licences in 2025, a significant decline compared with 2024, when more than 207,000 licences were issued, Caliber.Az reports.
Despite the overall downturn, women made up more than one-third of new licence holders. Nearly 50,000 women obtained driving licences in 2025, representing a 13 per cent decrease from the previous year. In contrast, the number of men receiving licences fell much more sharply, dropping to just over 103,000 — a decline of about 66 per cent compared with 2024.
