WSJ: Europe develops plan to secure Strait of Hormuz without US involvement
European countries are working on a plan to ensure control and security in the Strait of Hormuz without the participation of the United States, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports.
According to the publication, the initiative has three main objectives: restoring logistical routes through the strait, conducting mine-clearing operations in the waterway, and escorting commercial vessels with warships.
Germany, which has previously maintained a cautious stance on military involvement in the Middle East, may join the program. However, differences remain among European countries over possible US participation.
French diplomats believe that involving Washington would make the initiative unacceptable to Iran, while British officials argue that excluding the United States could provoke a negative reaction from US President Donald Trump and reduce the scale of the operation.
