Zelenskyy faces scrutiny as Trump assassination attempt links suspect to Ukraine
Recent speculation linking Ryan Routh, a suspect in the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, to Ukraine has intensified media focus on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, especially in advance of his forthcoming talks with President Joe Biden.
This development has brought Zelenskyy unexpected attention, particularly as he prepares to discuss sensitive topics, including the potential use of US missiles to target Russian territory, Caliber.Az reports citing a recent article in foreign media.
The incident may also influence the White House’s stance on the Ukrainian issue.
The article notes that the unusual twist in Routh’s case could complicate perceptions of Ukraine within the US political landscape. “If there were already concerns about the Republican candidate's support for Ukraine, this latest bizarre episode in his campaign could have unpredictable consequences for Trump’s view on the matter,” the report suggests.
This is the second assassination attempt targeting Trump, following an earlier incident on July 13 involving an American pro-Ukraine advocate armed with an assault rifle who was reportedly lurking near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort while the former president was on the golf course.
Ryan Routh, 58, had previously expressed his desire to support Ukraine's fight against Russia’s 2022 invasion on social media. He was featured in a US newspaper article about foreign volunteers with no military background eager to contribute. Routh was apprehended before he could discharge any weapons, but his proximity to Trump — within 500 yards — raises serious concerns about security measures around the former president.
