Zelenskyy acknowledges Ukraine is no longer being invited to join NATO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has admitted that Ukraine is not being invited to join NATO, as the United States does not support its accession.
Zelenskyy made the remarks during a press conference following his visit to Norway, which was broadcast by his office, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"Regarding neutrality—if this was a question about NATO, I have always said: unfortunately, we are not being taken into NATO. Ukraine is not being invited to NATO, there is nothing to discuss," he stressed.
According to Zelenskyy, the United States, as NATO’s main ally, does not support Ukraine's membership in the alliance.
"That is the situation today," he said in response to a question about Ukraine’s potential neutral status. However, he emphasised that he had never stated he was prepared to "discuss the issue of Ukraine’s neutrality."
To recall, in June 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined conditions for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas and "Novorossiya," as well as Kyiv’s commitment to forgoing NATO membership.
Putin also insisted that the rights and freedoms of Russian-speaking citizens in Ukraine must be fully ensured. Additionally, Russia has demanded the lifting of all Western sanctions against it and the establishment of Ukraine as a non-aligned, non-nuclear state.
