Zelenskyy awaits briefing on US peace talks ahead of potential London visit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may visit London on Monday, December 8, he said during a conversation with an RBC-Ukraine correspondent on the sidelines of the second military prayer breakfast.
"I will probably go to London. I think that, most likely, the meeting could be on Monday," Zelensky stated.
The president added that he is awaiting discussions with the Ukrainian delegation currently in the United States, which is engaged in negotiations regarding US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine.
"I am still waiting to talk with the United States, with our team that is there in the United States. And if everything is active, we will be in London," he said.
Zelenskyy also noted that Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, will brief him on the progress of negotiations with the Americans by phone.
The negotiation process for implementing the American peace plan remains ongoing. Initially, Western media reported that the document contained 28 points, including provisions that essentially reflected Russia’s maximum demands on Ukraine to end the war.
According to influential sources, Russian officials may have been involved in drafting parts of the plan.
Consultations were held on October 23 and 30 between the US and Ukrainian delegations to revise the text and make it more acceptable to Kyiv. The first meeting took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and the second in Miami.
On December 2, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, arrived in Moscow to hold talks with Vladimir Putin on the updated version of the peace plan. After five hours of discussions, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated that no agreements had yet been reached, but both sides were committed to continuing the process.
As a result of the consultations, the US and Ukraine were able to agree on 20 points, though the most contentious issues remain unresolved.
