Zelenskyy holds energy meeting with officials following Russian strikes

15 January 2026 18:29

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a special energy briefing with the prime minister, government ministers, and representatives from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions to assess the consequences of Russian strikes.

On his X page, Zelenskyy emphasised that the situation in Kyiv was particularly difficult, noting that time had been lost at the city level and that the government would now address what had not been handled locally, Caliber.Az reports.

“A permanent operational headquarters for the capital has already been formed, and its work will be overseen at the government level. I expect full cooperation and coordination from local authorities,” Zelenskyy said.

The president added that decisions on curfews will be made today, considering extreme cold, and the network of support and warming centres in cities will be strengthened. He instructed the government to “ensure all necessary measures today to simplify and increase electricity imports by both state companies and the private sector.”

“I also expect immediate simplification of regulations for connecting additional equipment to the grid,” Zelenskyy emphasised, highlighting the responsibility of Kharkiv and other regional authorities in managing the energy sector under emergency conditions.

Zelenskyy further announced that he will hold a separate meeting with the defence minister and Ukrainian Air Force command to discuss the protection of energy facilities and requests for air defence support.
