Zelenskyy: Hungary returned seized Ukrainian bank funds
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that funds and valuables belonging to Oschadbank, previously seized by Hungarian special services in March, have been returned to Ukraine.
In a post on his Telegram channel, Zelenskyy described the move as “an important step” in relations with Hungary, Caliber.Az reports.
“Today, the funds and valuables of Oschadbank, which were seized by Hungarian special services in March this year, have been returned. At that time, the Hungarian side unlawfully detained Ukrainian cash-in-transit personnel. We brought the people back earlier, and now both the funds and valuables are on Ukrainian territory in full,” he noted.
The Ukrainian leader expressed his gratitude to Hungary for this constructive and civilised step.
“Thanks to the entire Ukrainian team that fought for a fair decision and defended the interests of our state and our citizens,” he added.
Earlier, seven Ukrainian nationals were detained on suspicion of money laundering.
According to law enforcement authorities, they attempted to transport large sums across the country — around $40 million, €35 million, and nine kilograms of gold.
Reports also said that a former general of Ukraine’s security services was among those detained.
All individuals were later deported to Ukraine.
