Zelenskyy urges global pressure on Russia for diplomatic resolution to Ukraine conflict
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for increased global pressure on Russia to encourage it to negotiate an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
In an interview with the BBC, Zelenskyy emphasized that while military victories are crucial, diplomacy could play a pivotal role in achieving a resolution, Caliber.Az reports.
“It doesn’t mean that all territories are won back by force. I think the power of diplomacy can help,” Zelenskyy said, noting that a weakened Russia on the battlefield would strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table.
He believes that through international pressure, a diplomatic settlement could be reached.
Zelenskyy, who has led Ukraine since 2019 and throughout the full-scale Russian invasion, acknowledged the potential for stepping down as president in the future. However, he stated unequivocally that he will not consider leaving office until the war is concluded. “But not until the war is over,” he told the BBC.
Ukraine’s constitution prohibits elections during martial law, which has been in place since the escalation of the conflict. Despite this, Zelenskyy remains focused on securing a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
