Yerevan daily: CSTO secretary-general leaves Armenia
    Without being received by PM

    REGION  27 September 2022 - 10:58

A delegation led by [Collective Security Treaty Organisation] CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas arrived in Yerevan on September 20. It was planned that the delegation would stay here for five days - until September 25.

"The purpose of the visit is 'to study the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, to present proposals to ease the existing tension'," Caliber.Az reports citing the Yerevan-based opposition daily Hraparak.

"It was assumed that the head of state would receive the organisation's secretary-general. After all, reducing tension on the border is a priority issue today, but [Armenian Prime Minister Nikol] Pashinyan did not receive the CSTO secretary-general. And two days after his arrival in Yerevan, he flew to New York, where, within the framework of the UN General Assembly session, he held a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the number one enemy of the CSTO and Russia.

However, during this period, Zas held meetings in Armenia with officials of the second echelon: the deputy foreign minister, the Security Council secretary and the chief of the General Staff. According to recent reports, Zas left Armenia a few days earlier than planned after learning about Pashinyan's meeting in New York. On what specific day he left, we have not been able to find out in the Foreign Ministry. The fact that after September 22, Zas did not participate in any meetings, no messages were distributed about any events with his participation," the newspaper writes.
