EU, Georgia discuss European integration, conflict in Ukraine
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has met with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on the sidelines of the first summit of the European Political Community, in Prague.
According to the press service of the Georgian Government Administration, at the meeting, he spoke about the historic decision on granting the European perspective to Georgia, also pointing out that Georgia is doing everything to take the next step toward EU membership and receive the EU candidate status, per Interpress.Ge.
For this purpose, Georgia has set out to implement without delay the 12 priorities identified by the European Commission. Garibashvili said this inclusive process enables every branch of government, alongside the opposition parties and civil society, to become fully engaged in the implementation of the priorities, with working groups put together to accomplish this task.
The conversation also touched on the Russian aggression in Ukraine and its impact on Georgia, the region, and the world in general. The Prime Minister paid special attention to the EU’s attempts to ensure peace in the South Caucasus and Georgia’s commitment to contributing to this mission.
At the meeting, the parties discussed Georgia’s further alignment and infrastructural communication with the EU in the transport, energy, and digital spheres.
The Prime Minister invited the President of the European Commission to Georgia, at her convenience.
