Georgia to send generators to Ukraine in humanitarian aid

09 December 2022 16:20

Georgia will purchase generators to send to Ukraine in humanitarian aid under Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili's decision.

The Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Ministry was instructed to fulfil the mentioned task shortly, Interpressnews reports.

Revaz Javelidze, the head of Georgia's government administration, stated that the government has never neglected its Ukrainian friends since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

"As of December 1, the approximate support provided by the state to the citizens of Ukraine amounts to 32 million laris [$11.9 million]. Our support has never stopped and it is not clear why a stir was created due to alleged non-consideration of various proposals that entered various agencies of Georgia, including the governmental administration. We are studying all these proposals in great detail, and according to the prime minister's instructions, specifically regarding the generators, the corresponding purchase will be made by the Economy Ministry and the appropriate support and the requested equipment will be sent to our Ukrainian friends," he said.

The official noted that Georgia remains in first place among the countries that have provided humanitarian aid to this state.

"I would definitely like to mention the support that the state continues today. Some 26,000 people, citizens of Ukraine, who currently live on the Georgian territory, receive appropriate financial support, as well as appropriate support in the educational and medical direction. A total of 2,345 young people currently study in different schools in Georgia, including 1,565 in the Ukrainian language. Over 900 people were provided with medical support within the framework of referral programs in various medical institutions," Javelidze said.
