Earthquakes in Türkiye cover 10 provinces settled by 13.5 million people
The earthquakes centred in Turkish Kahramanmarash city's Pazarcık and Elbistan districts affected the region where nearly 13,5 million live in 10 provinces.
Earthquakes, which mostly affected Kahramanmarash, Hatay, Gaziantep, Osmaniye, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakır, Shanliurfa, Adiyaman and Kilis, caused mass destruction in buildings, Anadolu reports.
A total of 3,500 military personnel, including commando battalions, participate in search and rescue efforts in the earthquake-affected areas.
There are continuous aid flights from Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara to Gaziantep and Adana with 17 aircraft, including A400M transport aircraft. Two Akıncı drones were assigned to coordinate the work in disaster areas.
According to the "Results of the Address Based Population Registration System for the Year 2022" announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the population of the 10 provinces most affected by the earthquake is as follows:
