Earthquake death toll exceeds 50,000 in Türkiye

Head of the Türkiye Disaster and Management Authority (AFAD) Yunus Sezer has said that the number of victims of the February earthquakes exceeded 50,000 people.
Sezer made these remarks in the Turkish parliament, Caliber.Az reports citing the Turkish media.
“Some 50,096 people became victims of the earthquakes on February 6 while 107,204 people suffered,” he said.
Earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 with an interval of nine hours in Kahramanmaras province in southeastern Türkiye. Tremors were felt in 11 provinces of the country and neighbouring countries, including Syria. The Turkish authorities have called the earthquake "catastrophe of the century".
