Armenian serviceman killed by his comrade

The Armenian Defence Ministry has reported a shootout in the southeastern border zone of the country.

The exchange of fire took place between the servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces due to a misunderstanding in conditions of extremely low visibility on March 31 at about 22:50, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Armenian media.

Simultaneously, shots were allegedly heard from the Azerbaijani side.

According to the Armenian military department, after the incident, the body of conscript Hrachya Sarukhanyan was found with a fatal gunshot wound. Another soldier also got wounds that do not pose threats to his life.

“An investigation is underway to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident. The Ministry of Defence expresses support and condolences to the relatives and colleagues of the deceased,” the ministry said in a statement.
