Azercosmos calls for more talks and collaboration at IAF in October

The website of the Chinese CGTN TV channel published an interview between journalist Wu Lei Oslo and Azerbaijan's Space Agency Azercosmos BOard Chairman Samaddin Asadov. Caliber.Az reprints the article.

In Norway, the first Global Space Conference on Climate Change has brought together the heads of many international space agencies. CGTN's Wu Lei sat down with the chairman of the board of Azercosmos, the space agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to ask what his observations on space and climate action are as well as what we can expect from the upcoming International Astronautical Congress. 

- How is your country using space technology to tackle climate change?"

- Chairman of the Board, Azercosmos "We are supporting a lot of agriculture industry in Azerbaijan with the satellite data, data on the soils, as well as effective use of the water, effective use of the irrigation systems. we are not only working in Azerbaijan government, we are also working with our neighbourhood, with the countries and the governments of Central Asian regions."

- What are the main challenges you think the space communities face in taking climate action?

- Chairman of the Board, Azercosmos "It's a very good question, and this question was also elaborated on during today's plenary. Even there is some analytics that almost 80 per cent of the data is not properly used by the government, by the necessary regulators in the fulfilment of their activities. And one of the major challenges is the pollution of the earth's orbit. we all understand that the orbit itself and its sources are limited. Are all of the satellites really used in favour of humanity?"

-The International Astronautical Conference, the annual landmark meeting in space communities, will be held in Baku this October, tell us more about the conference and what can we expect this year?"

- Chairman of the Board, Azercosmos "We as the host organization of this Congress are working tirelessly to offer the participants of this Congress that immerse and unforgettable experience during their stay in Azerbaijan in Baku City, we have received more than 3500 abstracts, the technical part of this conference will be quite interesting. I would like to also invite the Chinese industry to Baku City. We all have heard a lot about China's space programs, what kind of big programs are there in terms of space station etc. We will be very happy to see the updates and status of these programs to understand and also to see what's the next plans of China, Baku Congress will create an effective platform for Asians and Europeans and Americans to sit together to the side and collaborate at the end of the day."
