Azerbaijan nears 80 billion cubic metres milestone in gas exports via TANAP
The total volume of Azerbaijani natural gas transported through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) to Türkiye and European markets reached approximately 79.92 billion cubic metres as of June 1, 2025, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) confirmed.
Projections for 2024 indicate that 17.35 billion cubic metres of gas will be delivered via TANAP, marking a 1.4% increase compared to the volume transported in 2023, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The steady growth reflects the expanding role of TANAP as a critical energy corridor between the Caspian region and European energy markets.
Commercial gas transportation through TANAP officially commenced on June 30, 2018, establishing a key segment of the Southern Gas Corridor, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing Europe’s energy security by diversifying its sources of natural gas.
Stretching 1,805 kilometres, the TANAP pipeline carries natural gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Daniz Stage-2 field starting at the Georgian-Turkish border and extending to Türkiye’s western frontier. The pipeline currently operates at a capacity of 16.2 billion cubic metres per year, enabling the reliable delivery of Caspian gas to Türkiye and further into Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
TANAP remains a cornerstone of regional energy cooperation and economic integration, playing a vital role in Azerbaijan’s long-term strategy to solidify its position as a key energy supplier to the European Union.
