ECO chief announces plans to cooperate with Karabakh University

01 July 2025 11:45

The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) intends to establish cooperation with Karabakh University, said ECO Secretary-General Asad Majeed Khan.

“Today, I had a meeting with the rector of Karabakh University, who shared future plans with me. (...) We are committed to developing cooperation with educational institutions, particularly in the Karabakh region, as education is an important component of a future economically active generation,” Khan said at the ECO Youth Forum, Caliber.Az reports.

He also noted that during the meeting with the rector, the issue of student exchanges was discussed, aiming to have students from various countries come to study at Karabakh University.

“Investing in our youth is investing in our future, because attracting young people will give a boost to sustainable development across the region. This will also have a positive impact on achieving our goals for 2035,” emphasised the Secretary-General.

The Economic Cooperation Organization is a regional intergovernmental group focused on enhancing economic, trade, and cultural collaboration among its member states, which include countries from Central Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia. Azerbaijan and Iran are both founding members of ECO.

Azerbaijan will host the 17th ECO Summit on July 3–4, in Khankendi, underscoring its commitment to advancing regional cooperation and sustainable development. The Summit will bring together ECO Heads of State and Government, ministers, observers, special guests from non-ECO countries, and leaders of international organisations, all united in their efforts to foster development and prosperity through fragile economic integration.

Complementing the Summit, a dynamic and inclusive ECO Week will take place from July 1–4, 2025, across multiple cities in Azerbaijan.

ECO Week will include thematic forums promoting youth engagement, gender inclusion, and economic connectivity. On July 1, the ECO Youth Forum will take place in Aghdam, followed by the ECO Women Forum in Lachin on July 2. The same day, the 6th Business Forum will be held in Fuzuli, focusing on investment and trade as drivers of sustainable development in the ECO region.
