UN rep values Azerbaijani peacekeepers' participation in various missions

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and UN Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions Alexander Zuev expressed satisfaction with Azerbaijan's activities within the UN.

Besides, the sides highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s large-scale initiatives within the UN in a number of areas, in particular in the field of maintaining peace and security, including the participation of Azerbaijani peacekeepers in various missions, the Foreign Ministry Caliber.Az.

Noting that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to cooperation with the United Nations and its specialised structures, Bayramov stressed the close partnership of Azerbaijan as a donor country. The parties also exchanged views on the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period.

The minister provided detailed information on Azerbaijan's donor activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the country's contribution to the global fight against the pandemic, and the assistance provided by Azerbaijan to many countries in the fields of health and education, technical and humanitarian fields.

In turn, Zuev noted the rapid development of the Azerbaijani economy, stressed the successful solution of security issues in the country, and stated that law enforcement agencies adequately cope with the tasks assigned to them.

The UN representative congratulated Azerbaijan on holding an important international conference on the topic "Mine Threat Control - the Path to Sustainable Development".

In May 1992, Azerbaijan established its Permanent Mission in New York City. Azerbaijan applied to the UN General Assembly for membership on October 29, 1991, shortly after gaining independence from the Soviet Union.

Azerbaijan was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2012-2013 term. It has reached out to the international community, particularly Europe, through the United Nations. Azerbaijan improved its relations with the United Nations by collaborating with UN agencies and bodies such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the World Food Programme, and financial institutions.
