Erdogan finally recognised as winner of Turkish presidential election
REGION 01 June 2023 - 13:03
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was declared the winner of the presidential election on June 1 following the results of the second round of voting on May 28.
The corresponding final election results were announced by the head of the Turkish Supreme Electoral Council (CEC), Ahmet Ener, on TRT Haber.
"The commission considered the objections received regarding the election results. The final results of the second round of the presidential election have been sent for publication in the official newspaper. According to the results, Erdogan scored 52.18 per cent and was recognized as the elected president of the Republic of Türkiye," Ener said.
Having evaluated and concluded objections, Türkiye’s Supreme Election Council (YSK) on June 1 announced the final official results of May’s presidential and parliamentary elections and confirmed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s victory in Sunday’s runoff vote.
Erdoğan won the presidential runoff with 52.18 per cent from 27,834,589 voters, while his main challenger Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu garnered 25,504,724 votes, amounting to 47.82 per cent, YSK chief Ahmet Yener told reporters in Ankara.
“As per our council’s evaluations, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been elected president and the decision has been sent to the Official Gazette,” Yener said.
Following the confirmation, Erdogan is set to receive his mandate, an official document certifying his mandate, from current Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop on June 3.
