Azerbaijani prime minister arrives in Sochi on working visit

Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov paid a working visit to Sochi on June 7 at the invitation of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to take part in a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government.

The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers told Azertag that the prime minister will also take part as a guest in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the III Eurasian Congress.

In addition, a number of bilateral meetings between Asadov and his foreign counterparts are planned as part of the visit.

The Council of Heads of State of the CIS is a working body in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It serves as the supreme body of the CIS and includes all the chief of state of CIS member states.

Regular meetings of the council are held annually. It was created following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, directly replacing the State Council of the Soviet Union.

As of 2020, there are 9 members of the CIS: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Turkmenistan is an associate state of the CIS.
