Lithuanian FM: Russia's actions require significant reinforcement on NATO's eastern flank

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has said that the security situation on NATO's eastern flank has not improved.

He said this during a discussion on the priorities of the NATO summit in Vilnius organised by the French Institute for International Relations, European Pravda reports.

"After 15 months of Russia's brutal war against Ukraine and a year after the Madrid summit, the security situation on the eastern flank has not improved. Russia is preparing for a long-term confrontation with NATO, and its aggressive stance requires an obvious strengthening of collective deterrence and defence capabilities," Landsbergis said.

He also called for "telling Ukraine clearly how and when it can join the Alliance."

"Providing long-term support for Ukraine is vital, but we cannot call it security guarantees. The only reliable security guarantees capable of containing Russia are NATO membership and Article 5," the Lithuanian foreign minister added.
