Russian Telegram channels sound alarm over Armenia's desire to change its patron

    REGION  20 July 2023 - 16:09

Russian military Telegram channels, in particular, "Operativnye Svodki", note that Western influence is increasingly gripping Armenia. It is noted that Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, is holding active meetings in Brussels with Western officials and NATO representatives, saying that his country's priority is to reduce dependence on Russia.

The Pashinyan government is getting closer to NATO countries. For example, the speaker of the French Senate, as a result of meetings with the Armenian side, has already called on Paris to send French weapons to Yerevan.

At the same time, Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, is going to "part ways with Moscow" not only on the defence front. The only nuclear power plant in Armenia that operates only thanks to cooperation with Russia is also planned to be "sacrificed" in the name of friendship with Western masters. Armenians are planning to replace the partnership with Russia with the American one in the nuclear energy sector.

By the way, the issue of ratification of the Rome Statute, the decision on which, as Grigoryan claims, has already been taken and is not subject to revision, came up again within the framework of these meetings. And in general, the republic allegedly considers Vladimir Putin to be a political pariah among all democratic countries, which, as it turns out, include Armenia, according to Grigoryan.

Grigoryan also said that Yerevan refused to leave the CSTO only because its Western partners did not appreciate such a noble impulse at this stage. It is also not possible to withdraw Russian troops from the territory, but the Armenian authorities are purposefully moving toward it. In particular, last year Yerevan already ordered arms worth a quarter of a billion dollars from India.

Of course, it was not without territorial claims, this time concerning the corridor to the Azerbaijani Nakhchivan, which, according to trilateral agreements, should also be under the control of Russian border guards. As it turned out, Armenia categorically denies this, as it also makes it too dependent on the unloved Moscow," Russian Telegram channels wrote.
