Georgian PM slams president’s inaction towards country’s European integration

28 September 2023 19:23

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has said that President Salome Zourabichvili has done nothing towards Georgia’s European integration.

“Zourabichvili’s uncoordinated voyage to Europe is a sad fact. She made very difficult statements and that little trust between us has been lost. As for impeachment, this is a formal procedure that the authorities were obliged to carry out,” Garibashvili noted, Caliber.Az reports citing the Georgian media.

“I could not allow Mrs. President to continue sabotage against the country; I could not become an accomplice. If a person inside the country makes such unacceptable statements and then asks us to agree to her trip to Europe, then it is unknown what this person will say there. We do not trust her,” he noted.

“We do not know what she will say if she goes to any country with our mandate upon our permission. It's unclear for us. This justifies our refusal as it directly contradicts the national interests of our country. We want Georgia to receive EU member candidate status. Any statements or actions against this are sabotage and contradict the national interests of our country,” the prime minister said.
