Armenian parliamentarians criticise Zelenskyy's possible visit to Yerevan Advise him to deal with "domestic problems”

27 February 2024 10:23

Armen Ashotyan, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) of the country's third president Serzh Sargsyan, has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not the most welcome guest in Armenia.

He made the remarks commenting on the Ukrainian leader’s expected visit to Yerevan, TASS reports.

"Zelenskyy is not the most welcome representative of the brotherly Ukrainian people in Armenia," said the politician, who is serving a criminal sentence for large-scale embezzlement at Yerevan Medical University. The opposition believes that Ashotyan, who participated in the court session today [February 26], is a political prisoner.

For his part, an MP of the opposition Armenia parliamentary faction, Artur Khachatryan, also criticized Zelenskyy's possible visit to Yerevan, noting that this visit "will yield nothing but risks and threats". The MP advised the Ukrainian president to deal with the "problems of his country".

Earlier, the Yerevan-based Factor.am portal, citing its sources, published information about Zelenskyy's visit to the Armenian capital, which is allegedly scheduled for March. Representatives of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's ruling party did not rule out the possibility of organising such a visit.
