Armenia demands withdrawal of Russian border guards from Zvartnots airport

Armenia has sent an official letter to Russia regarding the presence of Russian border guards at the capital's Zvartnots airport, Armen Grigoryan, the secretary of the Armenian Security Council told journalists on March 6, Trend reports citing Armenian media.

"The authorities believe that the airport should be guarded by Armenian border guards. Armenia has all the means to do this," he said.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's press service, Maria Zakharova, said that Moscow considered the statements on the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Zvartnots airport as another example of Armenia's unfriendly behaviour.

"We see this as yet another unfriendly move from Yerevan. We have not received any appeals from the Armenian authorities in this regard. We understand that the Zvartnots story stems from earlier allegations about the Russian Dmitry Setrakov. We always respect the national legislation of sovereign states, and I can assure you that no illegal actions have been taken by Russian representatives," she said.
