Moscow accuses Europe of escalating tensions with Iran
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused the European Union of misrepresenting its role in the Middle East and attempting to evade responsibility for regional escalation.
She stated that in recent days, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, together with several Western European leaders, had publicly attempted to portray the situation as though they were not involved in the events in the Middle East and that it was not their war, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“We categorically reject this framing. It is yet another gross distortion of facts and an attempt to absolve themselves of responsibility for escalating tensions in the region. It is well known that Western European governments have pursued colonial policies in the region for decades, often under the guise of rhetoric and outright falsehoods,” the spokesperson added.
Zakharova claimed that before the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, European states allegedly obstructed diplomatic solutions and contributed to rising tensions. She said the governments of the UK, Germany, and France regularly submitted anti-Iran resolutions to the IAEA Board of Governors, shaping Iran’s image as an “enemy.”
“Now they pretend to be on the sidelines. That will not work,” Zakharova emphasised, adding that “the actions of the European elite went against facts and common sense, leaving European leaders in the same boat as the aggressors.”
