Kazakhstan tops medal standings after recount at World Nomad Games
Kazakhstan has moved into first place in the overall medal standings at the VI World Nomad Games following a recount, Kyrgyzstan’s presidential press secretary Askat Alagozov said on September 7.
According to Alagozov, the organising committee decided to count separately the medals won by three Kazakh athletes, allowing Kazakhstan to take the top spot, Kazakh media reports.
He added that the medal standings were only one part of the Games, while the main outcome was the atmosphere of mutual respect and fair competition between athletes from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
The World Nomad Games serve as an international platform bringing together different cultures, traditions, values and sporting practices. Over the course of a week, the Kyrgyz Republic will host a global exchange centred on traditional sports, crafts and music, as well as expertise in culture, ecology and heritage.
The Games are built around three key areas: ethnosport, ethnoculture, and science alongside traditional knowledge.
