Russia records nearly 500 imported cases of dangerous infections

Nearly 500 cases of dangerous infections brought into Russia from abroad have been recorded so far in 2026, according to the head of Russia’s consumer health watchdog, Anna Popova.

She said the cases had not resulted in further transmission within the country. Around 300 imported cases were recorded during the whole of 2025, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The infections included malaria, typhoid, Zika, dengue and chikungunya, as well as various fevers.

“We took all measures to prevent internal transmission in the country,” Popova noted.

She said Rospotrebnadzor had strengthened controls at Russia’s borders.

Popova described the emergence of the infections as “a reflection of the fact that the world is unsettled”.
